Read, rhyme, craft – an enjoyable and relaxed introduction to

reading and phonics.  Share a story, some songs and rhymes

do a related craft or two and play some language based games.  For ages 4 – 7.

The Creative Characters workshop on the 23rd April is almost fully booked, there are only two spaces left.

Talking and Listening Games on the 19th May is also filling up with half the places already reserved.

It’s definitely time to settle on a topic for the third workshop!

Now that everything is almost ready for the Creative Characters workshop on the 23rd April it’s time to start thinking about Talking and Listening Games.

This will be held on Saturday 19th May from 9.30 – 12 at Chinwag in Wollerau.

The exciting part of this workshop is that everything is oral so no reading or writing tasks permitted.  I have lots of interesting ideas and now it’s time to start gathering my resources and identify the most logical order for the activities.

I’m just back from the UK and have picked up lots of materials to use during the Creative Characters workshop.  The photograph shows just a few of the materials that will be available to create our fantastic characters.  There is still time to book a place for your child, more information is available here.

I’m currently trying to decide what my third workshop should be.  Shall I run a creative writing morning with 7-12 year olds, a summer poetry one for 7-12 ‘s or a ‘rhyme, read and craft’ summer workshop for 4-6 year olds?  I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, what workshops would you like?  You can leave me a comment or send me an email at

There are still spaces available on the ‘Creative Characters’ workshop on the 23rd April.  Whether your child would like to be the brave knight, clever princess or crazy clown this workshop gives them the opportunity to explore and create characters.  If you would like more information or an application form please click here.

I am delighted to confirm that I will be offering private tuition from beginner readers and writers through to more advanced primary school skills.  The tuition will take place on a Tuesday afternoon in the centre of Thalwil.  There are very limited spaces so please contact me (Karen) on if you would like more information or to register your interest.

I will be holding an open afternoon in a few weeks which will give people interested in private tuition a chance to meet me, see the resources I have available and discuss what is on offer.  If you would like an invite to this open afternoon please email me (Karen) at  There is no need to contact me if you have already noted your interest.

I have been asked if I offer private reading and writing lessons (beginners and more advanced readers).  I am looking into organising individual lessons in Thalwil.  If you would be interested in these please email Karen directly at so I can keep you informed about developments.
